I am part of a website and they send out articles about healthy living. An article I just read today was about the right and wrong way to snack. The article said snacking is okay but it's what you are snacking on that you need to watch. Snacks should only be about 100 calories, no more. The best snacks are fruits and vegetables, but nuts, whole wheat bread (1 slice), and crackers work. Just make sure to dish up one serving and when it's gone, it's gone. Do not go back for more.
Places to avoid snacking: in front of the TV and computer.
The article also said pops and candy bars are high in sugar so avoid them while choosing snacks.
My favorite part about the article: Make sure to include your snacks in your daily meal planning. So if you write down your food intake make sure snacks are included because snacking can add hundreds of calories and cause dieting to not work.
Have a great 4th of July. Stay healthy and be safe.

Motivation
While I was checking my email today, Spark People sent me something about motivational sayings. I am going to share a few.
"The principle is competing against yourself. It's about self-improvement, about being better than you were the day before." Steve Young
Aristotle said, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."
How about one from George Elliot, "It is never too late to be what you might have been."
Just a few things to keep in mind while trying to lose those pesky little pounds or deciding whether to go out for that walk, run, or jog.

Taste of Home "All you can eat"
In Taste of Home's Comfort Food Diet cookbook there is an article about vegetables that you can eat without feeling guilty.
Here are just a few:
Artichokes, artichokes hearts, asparagus, baby corn, bean sprouts, beans (green, wax, Italian),
Broccoli, cabbage, Cauliflower, celery, cucumber, eggplant, green onions, leeks, mixed vegetables without corn, peas or pasta, pea pods, pickles, bell peppers, salad greens, spinach, squash (summer, crookneck, zucchini), sugar snap peas, & tomato (fresh or canned).
This magazine also has snacks for under 50 calories and then recipes for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and desserts. Throughout our journey I will post recipes from catalog especially the one's we try (either at home or at our meetings). So stay posted to see what happens.
Also, a challenge for the members: posting something on the blog during the month gives you a point. So you have ten posts for the month, you get ten points ;).
